About Comprehensive Planning
The Department of Planning and Development Review is responsible for long-range planning activities for the County. These activities include the preparation and update of the Frederick County Comprehensive Plan and the preparation of individual community and corridor plans.
The Department is also responsible for various functional planning areas including water and sewer planning, environmental planning, historic preservation, and transportation planning. The planning staff also coordinates with the county's 12 municipalities, which have their own planning and zoning authority and their own planning staff.
The Department also acts in a coordinating role with various state and regional agencies including the Maryland Department of Planning, the Maryland Department of Transportation, and the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments.
