Stray Animals

Recent Stray Animals
We admit an average of 15 animals each day. Some are lost and others are given to us by people who can no longer care for them. Of course, this is only an average. Some days we receive many more or less.

If You Are Missing a Pet
If you are missing a pet, please leave a message (24/7) or lost report with shelter personnel at 301-600-1546. Describe your pet as best you can, let us know how to contact you, and email a picture of your pet to Animal Control. A picture is so helpful. For example, a mixed lab can be any color or size. Please come in person to view the lost animals at the Animal Control Office during office hours. Proof of ownership to reclaim a pet can be in the form of photos, bill of sale and/or vet records.

Always contact the Frederick County Animal Control and Adoption Center to report a lost pet. People often confuse the shelter with The Frederick County Humane Society, which does not house stray animals. While it is helpful to contact veterinarians and rescue groups about a lost pet, and post notices on social networking websites those messages do not automatically get to us or to someone who may find your pet.

List of Lost Animals
Below is a list of lost animals admitted to the shelter in the last few days. We hold lost animals for
5 days before they are available for adoption, rescue, or euthanasia. Once they are available for adoption, you can see much better pictures on petfinder.com. We do not euthanize healthy friendly pets but many stray animals arrive injured or sick. We will care for them as long as we are able in hopes of finding a rightful owner but in some cases this is not an option for the safety of the staff or to prevent suffering of an individual animal. We do our best to find you. Pets with microchips and ID tags have the best chance of being reunited with their families.
