Civil Citations
Civil Citations
Civil citations are issued by the Office of the Fire Marshal as a measure to gain compliance with Fire Code regulations.

The authority to issue civil citations is found in the Frederick County Fire Prevention Code.

Civil citations are usually not issued for initial violations unless the violation is of a serious nature or the violation continues to re-occur with the knowledge of the property owner or responsible person.

Staff assigned to the Office of the Fire Marshal will always attempt to gain compliance with fire code regulations through education and providing a reasonable amount of time to comply before issuing a civil citation.

Civil fines may be imposed for the following:
  • $25 - for violation of the Frederick County Addressing Ordinance
  • $250 - for obstructing a fire department access road, fire lane, or fire hydrant
  • $500 - for any other violation of the Frederick County Fire Prevention Code

If you have questions regarding the fees charged by the Office of the Fire Marshal or civil citations in general please call 301-600-1479.
