Bite or Scratch
If the biting animal is still present on-site, contact:
Monday thru Friday 8:00 am to 4:00 pm
After hours, weekends and holidays call (301 )600-2558.
Any potentially rabid animal collected by Animal Control is submitted to the State Rabies Testing Labs.
You will be informed of the results by the Health Department.
If the animal is negative for rabies, no further action needs to be taken.
If the animal is positive for rabies, a Health Department Sanitarian will contact you and advise what further actions should be taken.
If you are bitten by an animal that is unable to be collected, contact your physician, FMH Emergency Department at 240-566-3500 or the Community Health Services Division of the Health Department at (301) 600-3342.
If the bite is from a domesticated animal (dog or cat), that animal will need to undergo a 10-day quarantine.
