We are pleased to once more make the quarry area of Fountain Rock Park available for your use and enjoyment.

For many months the quarry has experienced a blue-green algae bloom. Testing last spring revealed the quarry algae was producing a toxin and the quarry was closed to the public, as we continued to look for solutions to the problem.

In July quarry waters were treated with a nontoxic chemical commonly used to treat drinking water which oxidized the algae and toxin. Recent water tests confirm that the treatment has successfully eliminated any associated health risk.

Be assured we will continue to monitor the quarry to ensure safety.
