Short Range Development

Projects
The following projects, listed alphabetically, are either under design or construction, with completion scheduled sometime in 2013-2018.

Bikeways / Trails Program
The initial phase of the program will involve design and development of the trail system in the Ballenger Creek corridor. The program is on-going and other corridors will be addressed as identified in the Frederick County Bikeways and Trails Plan. The first section to be funded and constructed by Frederick County includes the following:

  • Section IV (Kingsbrook Advisors Court Section): Trail section will connect both existing trail segments, Kingsbrook and Westview South Sections of the Ballenger Creek Trail. This section of trail will have a bridge crossing Ballenger Creek. Frederick County will be applying for a Transportation Enhancement Program (TEP) Grant which could pay up to 80% of construction costs.

Loy's Station, Roddy Road & Buckeystown Renovations
Master Plans for these parks were approved by the BOCC July 2007. Development will include the following at each site:
  • Loy's Station - measured walking trail, picnicking, replace existing shelter and provide a new picnic shelter, expand parking area, provide new pedestrian bridge to island, provide vaulted toilets, install lighting at the covered bridge and landscaping.
  • A non-potable water supply will be installed at all three sites for use in cleaning the picnic shelters
  • Buckeystown - A vaulted restroom and a kayak/canoe launch are to be constructed on the developed east side of the park.
  • Roddy Road - realignment of Roddy Road, develop a hiking trail with a pedestrian bridge over the creek, asphalt walking trail, picnic shelter, vaulted toilet, add reforestation along creek and stabilize creek banks, add a parking area, provide wood guardrails along Roddy Road, install lighting at the covered bridge and landscaping.

Pinecliff Restrooms & Sewer Upgrade
This development project would include the construction of permanent restrooms to replace the current vaulted restrooms. As part of this project, a sewer line would be constructed to serve the Browning Building, thus eliminating the large holding tank. This project will be completed in conjunction with the Public Safety Training Facility Sewer Improvements Project.
