Kids Like Us
Kids Like Us (KLU) is an established, multi-year prevention program offered at no cost for selected students in grades 4-8. KLU's overall focus is to build resiliency and prevent substance abuse by engaging students in group counseling activities that build self worth; increase social support and social skills; foster effective emotional expression and management; and promote healthy coping skills. KLU is designed to help youth maneuver through the often challenging transition from elementary to middle school. prepare for high school, and face additional pressures that often accompany this developmental period. KLU usually begins as a weekly series of small group meetings with fourth graders at their elementary school. Monthly meetings follow through 8th grade. A trained KLU counselor and the school counselor lead the group. Students in KLU are invited to attend a free, summer day camp program and participate in an Annual Community Art Show. KLU has been serving students in Frederick County Schools since 1989.

Participation is confidential, voluntary, and requires parental permission. For more information, contact your school counselor or Kids Like Us Program Director.
