Inclement Weather and Collection Delays
Wondering how winter weather may affect your recycling collection day? Up-to-the-minute information and updates on the status of the curbside recycling collection can be obtained by visiting the Office of Recycling’s Facebook page at www.Facebook.com/FrederickRecycles or by calling 301-600-2960 to hear regularly updated voice recordings
General Instructions
Our area is occasionally subject to severe weather patterns- from sleet and snow to high winds or heavy rains- all of which can affect your curbside recycling service.

To keep recyclables from scattering outside of collection containers, residents are reminded:
  • Do not overfill recycling bins and carts; lids should be able to close all the way. (Residents may exchange their cart for a larger size at no cost, or purchase a second cart. Excess materials may also be set alongside a cart, placed inside cardboard boxes or paper bags.)
  • Please place carts on as level and hard a surface as possible.

Typically, when inclement weather (snow, sleet, ice) or poor road conditions prevent crews from collecting your recyclables on their regularly scheduled day, please leave the recycling cart or bin curbside, as drivers generally attempt to empty them the following day.

The Frederick County Office of Recycling will post ‘News Flashes’ to its website to keep residents advised of such situations. Please check at the bottom of our homepage ( www.FrederickCountyMD.gov/recycling ) to see this up-to-date information.
