Carts and Bins for Collecting Recyclables
cart numbers and sizesRecycling Containers
Every single-family household in Frederick County is entitled to receive one recycling collection container free of charge, regardless of which container is selected to best serve household needs.

There are four different sizes of recycling containers. The standard-issue recycling container used by most County residents is a 65-gallon wheeled recycling cart with lid. There are both larger and smaller cart options available (as well as 18-gallon bins, available while supplies last.)

To tell what size cart you currently have, check the serial number imprinted in white on the front. The first two numbers indicate what size the cart is, and will show either 35, 65 or 95, showing how many gallons of material your cart will hold. If your cart says 35 or 65...visit www.LearnMoreRecycleBetter.org to upsize for free today!

Exchanges
Any household can exchange their recycling container for another size model- for no charge -and many residents have found that by using a 95-gallon cart they can easily store all the recyclables collected between biweekly pick-ups. Townhomes without garages and some downtown rowhouses were not automatically provided carts as many of these households have storage and access issues or community covenants that prohibit outdoor placement of such containers.

However, all single-family homes—including those without garages, those occupied by rental tenants and those in HOA-controlled communities—can have a recycling cart for no cost! There are several options for choosing a recycling container that best suits your needs, and may order a container if they have not yet received one.

The dimensions of the carts are:
  • 95 gallon cart:Height:45.13",Width: 28.70",Depth: 33.73"
  • 65 gallon cart:Height:40.58",Width:26.70",Depth: 28.11"
  • 35 gallon cart:Height:39.13",Width:20.20",Depth: 22.98"
