2010 Junior Deputy Academy

2010 Junior Deputy Academy

During June the fourth annual Frederick County Sheriff's Office Junior Deputy Academy was held in Middletown, Maryland.  Over the two days 180 kids rotated through ten stations giving them an opportunity to meet law enforcement personnel and learn about many of the different aspects of police work.  The stations are designed to be engaging and many of them provide demonstrations or hands on activities with the goal of focusing on fundamental safety principles like stranger danger, bike, water/boat, and gun safety.  One of the added attractions this year was a US Park Police helicopter that landed, followed by a talk given by the pilot.

The academy is our largest outreach to the community and many of the youth who attend look forward to participating year after year.  The academy is only possible because of the generous contributions of time, money and material put forth by many of our community partners.  The Frederick County Sheriff's Office commends the efforts of the many deputies, volunteers and organizations who made the 2010 academy so successful.
