Middletown Cooking Studio
Cooking Merit Badge
Scouts will visit the Middletown Cooking Studio and prepare meals that they have previously planned out. Instructor will lead scouts in preparing breakfast, lunch and dinner on a charcoal grill or cooking stove as well as trail meals, with food supplies provided by the scout group. Instructor will also review basic food safety. Scout leaders will need to assist with supervising some activities.
Fountain Rock Park & Nature Center / Catoctin Creek Park & Nature Center
Insect Study Merit Badge
Describe and understand what make insects unique. Learn about some up close, discover their life history and determine how important they are. Identify insects in the park by exploring different habitats and create a “new” insect as a group.
Reptile & Amphibian Study Merit Badge
Investigate the amazing world of herpetology. Learn up close about the differences between reptiles and amphibians. Understand life history, habitat requirements and importance in the ecosystem. Discover the difference between venomous and non-venomous snakes, listen for frogs and toads, and search the park for turtles, salamanders and lizards.
Mammal Study Merit Badge
Explore the fascinating lives mammals live. Discover where they live, what they eat and how they sound. Learn how to identify mammals by tracks, scat, and other clues left behind. Scouts will create their own tracking poster.
