Bureau of Emergency Services
The Bureau of Emergency Services is the largest Bureau within the Division of Fire and Rescue Services with over 300 uniformed full-time and part-time employees who are assigned to fire/rescue stations throughout Frederick County and other field assignments.

Within the Bureau of Emergency Services, the Special Operations Section is responsible for providing Hazardous Materials Response to Frederick County and provides assistance and acts as liaison to the other Special Operations groups such as the Dive Team and the Advanced Technical Rescue Team. The Bureau of Emergency Services, Planning Section is the liaison to multiple County divisions and agencies for fire and rescue operations. These include but are not limited to Emergency Management, Frederick County Public Schools, Frederick County Election Board, Transit, Public Works, Sheriff's Department and Frederick City Police. The Planning Section works with other agencies to further the safety and preparedness of both the staff of Fire and Rescue and the citizens of Frederick County. Employees work either a 24-hour on duty/48-hour off duty schedule, or a 12-hour, 4 day week schedule.
