Health Education
Health education is a vital component of Family Partnership services. Issues related to optimal health touch every aspect of one’s life. Health education includes those issues that are related to the physical and emotional well being of children, youth and adults. The focus is primary healthcare and/or prevention. The broad spectrum of health education issues includes generalized health, proper diet and nutrition, substance abuse, disease prevention, family planning and pregnancy prevention, prenatal care, children and adult mental health, stress, domestic violence, healthy relationships, etc. Health education is provided primarily in a group format, but opportunities to provide information on an individual basis are available.

Topics Include:
  • Cooking Classes - with a focus on good nutrition and economy.
  • Domestic Violence - understanding, preventing and dealing with domestic violence.
  • Health Education - offering educational activities about men’s and women’s reproductive health issues and concerns.
  • Healthy Self-Esteem and Emotional Well Being - including workshops on how to cope with stress, healthy relationships, etc.
  • Newborn Health Care Services - offers information and education on how to care for the new baby with topics to include feeding, nutrition, diaper rash, common illnesses, when and how to call the doctor and being the parent of a newborn, etc.
  • Prenatal Health Care Services - offers workshops on what to expect during pregnancy, proper nutrition and child birth preparation classes.
  • Proper and Preventive Healthcare Practices - offering information and education on issues related to generalized health and prevention, proper diet and nutrition related to adult and children’s health issues. Cooking classes, screenings and assessments are examples of workshops offered.
  • Substance Abuse Education - offering education about prevention, the use and abuse of illicit drugs, co-dependency issues, signs and symptoms of drug use, etc.
