Maintenance Department
The Maintenance Department provides property maintenance services for 143 County-owned buildings located on 55 sites with a total replacement value in excess of $300 million. Buildings maintained include the courthouse, office buildings, public libraries, vehicle repair facilities, emergency facilities, fire stations, detention facilities, and community centers. Included are several prominent structures in the Historic District of downtown Frederick.

The Department provides preventive maintenance for all building equipment and responds to work orders for plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry and painting requirements of County departments. Other areas of responsibility include:

• Developing and implementing energy conservation initiatives
• Managing maintenance contracts
• Maintaining the building key inventory
• Purchasing and managing utility services
• Planning for emergency situations including severe weather conditions
• Reviewing plans for new construction and renovation projects

The Maintenance Department has 32 employees and a budget of $8.3 million.
