To prevent cruelty, abuse and neglect of animals in Frederick County by enforcing all state, county and city ordinances. We shelter homeless animals and place them in safe and loving home environments. We educate the public on all animal issues, to foster a more aware and caring community.
Surrendering your pet to Frederick County Animal Control (FCAC) or another open-admission shelter should be considered only as a last resort. Why? Open-admission shelters typically have very limited resources. Sometimes a pet who is wonderful in a home is deeply affected by the stressful shelter environment and becomes dangerous for staff to handle. The stress also makes shelter pets more susceptible to illness. In either scenario, euthanasia is sometimes the only option. Through Project Hope , Frederick Friends of Our County Animal Shelter (FFOCAS) and FCAC aim to help you navigate local resources with the goal of helping pet parents: ~find a way to resolve problems and keep their pet when possible and appropriate, ~rehome their pet safely with assistance, or ~decide if surrendering their pet to FCAC truly is the best or only option.
