Boyers Mill Road

Project Overview

To date, the Office of Transportation Engineering staff has negotiated, and the Board of County Commissioners has approved several different tasks along Boyers Mill Road. Initially, the Boyers Mill Road and Bridge projects were a single Capital Improvement Project. However, the road (South) and bridge (North) projects were split into two separate Capital Improvement Projects in November 2010 due to the fact that the bridge project could move to construction quicker than the road improvement project. The South project is in the design phase with Phase 1 (From the south side of the Boyers Mill Road Bridge over Lake Linganore to Finn Drive) at 100% design completion, and final plans approvals have been obtained. The County is working with the design consultant on updated detour and erosion control plans to take account for upcoming residential development plans along Boyers Mill Road. The project will now include a temporary signal plan to be installed at the Pinehurst Drive intersection with Boyers Mill Road.

Boyers Mill Road Reconstruction

The main focus of the Boyers Mill Road improvement project is improving the safety of the road corridor from its intersection with Gas House Pike to its intersection with Old National Pike. The upgrade is needed to meet the increasing traffic demands in the area. The roadway reconstruction project will include adding 2-foot or 5-foot (depending on location) paved shoulders for vehicle recovery, along with horizontal and vertical geometric improvements. Stormwater management improvements will also be made along the length of the corridor. The project will include a roundabout intersection where Eaglehead Drive intersects with Boyers Mill Road. Adding multiple pull-off areas to aid in speed enforcement has also been proposed.

Current Status

  •  “North Section” Boyers Mill Road from the intersection with Gas House Pike to the northern side of Linganore has been completed as of September 24, 2018.

  • “South Section” Boyers Mill Road Phase 1 (from the south side of the Boyers Mill Road Bridge to Finn Drive) is 100% Design complete with final approvals obtained from permitting agencies. Redesign of Detour and Erosion Plans are being implemented in the new final design plan sets. The County is coordinating with the upcoming residential developments to ensure Phase I South improvements align with mandated Development roadway improvements. The County is also incorporating designs and construction of a temporary signal stationed at Pinehurst Drive to mediate traffic flow with Boyers Mill Road. Additionally, design is beginning for a roundabout to connect Boyers Mill Road and Yeagertown Road with a future plan to connect the Pinehurst community with a secondary ingress/egress location.
