Citizens Advisory Committee

The Advisory Committee meets monthly and its meetings are open to the public.

The advisory committee was established to provide the Sheriff's Office a forum for Police-community interaction and to address public safety and related issues in order to further enhance the quality of life in our community. The committee advises and assists the Sheriff's Office to:
  • Create dialog and explore the perceptions of the Sheriff's Office and the community concerning the inter-relationship with each other regarding public safety issues within the community
  • Receive information concerning the Sheriff's Office programs and operations
  • Give input regarding new programs under development by the Sheriff's Office
  • Provide input to the Sheriff's Office regarding service needs within the community
  • Assist the Sheriff's Office in assessing the effectiveness of department operations / programs
  • Identify gaps in services and/or communication
  • Enhance the community understanding of the capabilities of the Sheriff's Office in providing services to the community
  • Identify potential Police-Community partnerships to address public safety related issues within the community
  • Identify community resources and support for public safety activities; and give input concerning perceived effectiveness
  • The Frederick County Sheriff's Office Citizens Advisory Committee is composed of 15 to 20 persons from the community. The members represent a broad cross section of the community, including residents, business persons, local educational community, local community based social service groups, and other components of the criminal justice system
Sworn or civilian, full-time or part-time, paid or volunteer, we are proud to be a part of the Frederick County Sheriff's Office and promote these values.

Mission Statement
Our mission is to work in partnership with the Frederick County Sheriff's Office to assure it maintains the highest standards of integrity. Assist in enhancing the quality of life through the delivery of professional, superior, and compassionate Police services to the community. To apply knowledge, skills, and resources to foster an environment where all people can live safely and without fear.

Our objective is to advise and/or assist the Sheriff's Office to preserve the peace in a manner consistent with the freedoms secured by the constitution. In doing so, the role of the Sheriff's Office is to enforce the law in a fair and impartial manner, recognizing both the statutory and judicial limitations of law enforcement authority and the constitutional rights of all persons.

Our goals are to partner with the Office of the Sheriff while representing all communities in the county. Advise the Sheriff on current and future programs and policies. Recommend new directions and opportunities for the department. Provide feedback on administrative and initiatives, help the Sheriff execute some activities, and advocate his program mission.
