VAC in the Community

  1. New Wounded Warriors and Veterans Your input is needed to help review biomedical research proposals. General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT) is contracted by the Department of Defense to recruit Veterans as “consumer reviewers” on panels reviewing biomedical grant applications to support the development of highly innovative and impactful research. More information is available here
  2. NEW April 1, 2020 is Census Day. Look for an invitation to complete the Census on line starting March 12.  A reminder letter and paper questionnaire will be mailed beginning April 8.  Check out our website for more information.
  3. NEW As a Veteran, you can see live entertainment at the Weinberg Center for free through the Vets’ Night Out Program! To get your tickets, please contact Jef Cliber in the Weinberg Center Box Office at jcliber@cityoffrederickmd.gov or 301.600.2878. Simply confirm the name and number of the party, and show you would like your tickets for with Jef, and specify that you are participating in the Vets’ Night Out program.
  4. NEW The Veterans Consortium offers a Pro Bono Legal Clinic every Friday from 10 AM to 2 PM at the Transition and Care Center, Washington VAMC. 
  5. Public Law 116-23, (Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans Act 2019) was signed into law on June 25, 2019 and takes effect January 1, 2020
  6. DoD is expanding access to Commissaries, Exchanges, and Recreation effective January 1, 2020. Read more about it here.

Veterans Resource & Recognition Day - Wednesday, July 10

Veterans Resource & Recognition Day: Exhibitors will share information about services and benefits for individual of all ages who have served in the armed forces, as well as family, caregivers, and others interested in our veterans. In addition, there will be exhibits, speakers, lunch catered by Palmtree Catering, a message center where participants can create a greeting card for a hospitalized veteran, and other activities.
