Plumbing permits are required to provide practical plumbing regulations for the safeguarding of person and property from hazards arising from unsanitary and unhealthy plumbing conditions. Any time that plumbing work is to be done, a plumbing permit is required. If the work is being performed in connection with a Building Permit, then the Plumbing Permit is not approved until after the Building Permit is approved.
Applications for plumbing permits are processed online. The applicant for a plumbing permit must be a licensed plumber or the property owner. If the applicant is the resident property owner, but is not a licensed plumber, the owner must pass a homeowner plumbing examination with a score of at least 70% and sign a homeowner affidavit.
Only licensed master plumbers may install water or sewer lines from the main line to the structure. Licensed appliance installers or master plumbers may install water treatment systems. Licensed appliance installers or master plumbers may install natural or LP gas systems. Only licensed master plumbers may install residential sprinkler systems.
