275 years ago, in the year 1748,Frederick County was formed, carvedout of the western portion of PrinceGeorge’s County. Prior to colonialsettlement, the land was inhabited bythe Tuscarora and Piscataway Nations.
Historically, Frederick County washome to settlers from Germany andother European nations. African-Americans, both free and enslaved, helped to drive the county’s economyas early as the 1750s, and likely evenearlier.
