Executive Gardner Announces Frederick County Preparations for Hurricane Florence

Hurricane Florence Preparation

County Executive Jan Gardner held a press conference to inform citizens about steps Frederick County Government is taking to prepare for Hurricane Florence and to alert residents and businesses to be ready for flooding, increased winds, heavy rains and power outages resulting from the storm. She noted that citizens should have an emergency kit, a family plan on how to communicate with loved ones if they get separated, and know where to find local information from emergency management officials.

“Your county government is ready to respond to challenges we will face over the next few days,” commented Executive Gardner. “Our crews are performing pre-storm checks of facilities and equipment, getting ready for flooded roads and closures, looking out for those who may need extra help, and coordinating with our state, local and community partners.”

Even with Hurricane Florence tracking farther south than initially predicted, Frederick County can expect to be impacted by this massive storm system. Governor Larry Hogan declared a State of Emergency in advance of the hurricane, recognizing that Maryland could receive massive amounts of rain on top of already saturated ground.
