The Frederick County Emergency Management Division has released a post- storm damage assessment survey to gauge the extent of damage suffered during the EF1 tornado that struck areas of the county on Feb. 7. Residents who were affected by the tornado are asked to take a few minutes and provide basic contact information and briefly describe the losses suffered during the storms. If the resident consents, this data will be shared with area volunteer organizations active in disasters. Completed surveys are due by February 21, 2020.
The Emergency Management Division conducted a preliminary assessment of the storm damage with the National Weather Service, Frederick County Fire and Rescue Division, and Frederick County Public Works Division the day of the storm. It was determined that the damage did not rise to the level which would support a request for a federal disaster declaration.
“Our hearts go out to the residents who were severely impacted by the tornado,” said County Executive Jan Gardner. “While Frederick County did not receive the level of damage necessary to qualify for any type of federal disaster assistance, we may be able to connect these residents with vetted volunteer organizations who can provide assistance with post storm cleanup activity such as damaged tree trimming or debris removal. This survey will help provide us with the information needed to share with any volunteer organizations.”
