On Friday, 02/19/2016 at approximately 2:15 a.m. members of the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the 10800 block of Harp Hill Road for a reported single motor vehicle collision. The collision involved a 2006 Ford F-350 with an adult operator and no additional occupants. No other vehicles were involved in the collision. Collision reconstructionists with the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit responded to conduct the collision investigation. The initial investigation has revealed that the F-350 was travelling north on Harp Hill Road when the vehicle left the travel portion of the road. It struck several fence posts along the northbound shoulder before crossing back over both travel lanes. The truck struck a utility pole and then struck a tree. The operator of the F-350 was pronounced dead on the scene by responding EMS personnel.
The truck operator has been identified as Patrick E. Shafer of Myersville, MD. Mr. Shafer’s family members have been notified. The preliminary investigation does not indicate that alcohol was a factor in the crash. Multiple units from FCSO and Frederick County DFRS assisted on the scene and the collision investigation is being handled by DFC. Jason Noblick of the FCSO Traffic Unit who can be reached at 301-600-3897.
