Why are water samples being taken in my neighborhood?

The DUSWM Environmental Laboratory and Drinking Water Operators collect water samples to use as a snapshot of the water quality in the neighborhood of sampling.  The results of the sampling are sent to the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) which maintains water system compliance.  Water samples taken in neighborhoods are instrumental in maintaining excellent water quality.
