Our Sustainable Priorities

Sustainability is one of the core values of Frederick County Government. We strive to engage the public in our work, to be inclusive, and to gather input that can help ensure that sustainable living is relevant and accessible for ALL residents. Our efforts focus on projects that:

  • address environmental inequities,
  • reduce barriers to resources and information,
  • decrease our impact on climate change,
  • build a resilient, adaptable community,
  • protect human and environmental health, and
  • support sustainable living.

To achieve these goals, we need partners!

Green Partners

"Green Partners" are what we call everyone who works with us to increase sustainability in Frederick County.  Here's how YOU can get involved!

Green Ambassadors

These are organizations that partner with the Division of Energy and Environment to help connect people to programs, resources, and ideas that promote sustainability. We provide educational programs, training, and incentives to these groups, and they help refer individuals to our services and work with us to help our community go green!

Green Leaders

These are individuals who volunteer alongside our staff to work on a variety of projects such as planting trees,  watershed monitoring, youth programs or community outreach, and neighborhood cleanups.

The Frederick County Sustainability Commission

This is a formal public advisory group that contributes toward county goals and operations. The commission meets monthly to discuss and advise on county policies and programs to help advance local resiliency, conservation, and climate action.

If you're interested in working with us, you're in good company! Here's how to get involved:

Special thanks to the following businesses who helped shine a light on others! These Green Partners donated prizes that were awarded to participants in our Green Homes Challenge program in 2025:
