Volunteer at Animal Control

Beginning in March of 2025, the shelter will undergo a complete renovation and expansion.  The project is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2026 and we are excited for the changes the new facility will offer our shelter residents as well as the citizens of Frederick County.  During this time, space will be limited.  Throughout construcation the volunteer program will only be able to recruit 2-3 new participant/month.

Thank You

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Frederick County Animal Control. FCAC is an exciting place where you can really make a difference! There are many volunteers who are actively involved with the care of our animals and the maintenance of the shelter.  FCAC receives between 30-50 volunteer inquiries each month; however, we only have the capacity to accept 5-7 new volunteers/month. Requirements to volunteer include:

  • Participate in the program at least 4 hours each month
  • 15yo or older
  • Ability to work independently and require minimal supervision
  • Attend a minimum of two trainings - trainings are held on weekdays, typically around 12pm
