FREDERICK, Md. – Transit is proud to announce the 2024 Fixed Route Driver of the Year, Joseph Asamoah, and the 2024 Paratransit Driver of the Year, Karen Stottlemyer. These outstanding drivers were nominated by their peers for embodying the spirit of service, teamwork, and professionalism that Transit values in its employees.

Joseph Asamoah has been described as a cooperative team player, often staying past his shift to cover any open routes willingly and without complaint. He routinely receives praise from management, fellow operators, and the public for providing exceptional service. Mr. Asamoah skillfully balances Transit procedures with caring for riders to create a positive Transit experience. He was recently promoted to Operations Supervisor, a testament to his capabilities.

Karen Stottlemyer possesses the special talents required of Paratransit drivers. She has an unwavering "can do" attitude and a great sense of humor that delights the clients she transports daily, many of whom look forward to their rides with her and write thank-you notes to Transit about their positive interactions. Mrs. Stottlemyer is cooperative, respectful, and dedicated, always representing Transit positively. She selflessly helps others without hesitation.

"We are honored to have such devoted professionals as part of the Transit team,” said Joe Ortega, Assistant Director of Operations. “Joseph and Karen exemplify the standard of excellence we strive for in serving our community. We congratulate them on this well-deserved recognition and thank them for their service to Transit and our community."

Nominated by their peers, the Driver of the Year title is bestowed annually on one fixed route and one paratransit driver. Mr. Asamoah and Mrs. Stottlemyer have proven themselves worthy of this prestigious honor through their exceptional service, which serves as an inspiration to Transit employees and riders alike. Both Mr. Asamoah and Mrs. Stottlemyer’s nominations will be submitted to the Transportation Association of Maryland to be considered for the statewide Driver of the Year Award later this fall.
