[ARCHIVED] Frederick County Launches Additional Way to Get Emergency Information

Text AlertFC to 888777 for Info on Major Incidents Affecting Frederick County

FREDERICK, MD – The Frederick County Division of Emergency Management has expanded the AlertFC system to give people who live, work, and play in Frederick County an easy way to receive information on incidents with widespread impact.

"This new text opt-in is an exciting addition to our AlertFC emergency notification system. It’s a great tool that offers a fast, simple way to get urgent information into the hands of Frederick Countians,” said Anthony Rosano, Director of the Division of Emergency Management.

Alerts for Major Incidents

After texting AlertFC to 888777, text messages will be sent to cellular phones when major incidents occur.

Examples include:

  • Major Transportation Closures: Closure of an interstate for an extended period due to a serious accident.
  • Significant Public Hazards: Notification of a major water main break in a high-traffic area.
  • Life Safety Actions: Instruction to the public to avoid flooded roadways during extreme flash flooding.
  • Avoid Area Requests: A request to avoid an area while a sinkhole is being assessed and repaired.

This new text opt-in does not replace signing up for a full AlertFC account.

Why You Still Need an AlertFC Account

The full, free AlertFC account is the only way to get alerts that are location-specific and based on your preferences. Signing up takes less than five minutes and lets you:

  • Multiple Contact Methods: Register multiple phone numbers and email addresses to get emergency alerts by text, phone call, and email. You tell us the best way to reach you.
  • Location-Specific Alerts: Add up to five important addresses (home, work, school, sports fields, etc.) to receive alerts about an emergency happening near those places.
  • Optional Alerts: Choose to receive important information, such as severe weather warnings, city or town specific alerts, county government closures, or Transit service updates.

The public is encouraged to take advantage of both features to ensure they have access to the most comprehensive emergency information. Text AlertFC to 888777, then visit www.FrederickCountyMD.gov/AlertFC to create your AlertFC account. Message and data rates may apply.
