[ARCHIVED] Weekend Winter Storm Warning: Take Action Now

FREDERICK, Md. – The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Frederick County from Saturday afternoon through late Sunday night.  Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Stay off the roads during the storm both for safety and to allow plow crews to clear roads.

"Now is the time to prepare for the upcoming winter storm,” said Anthony Rosano, Director of the Frederick County Division of Emergency Management. “Stay updated with the latest forecasts, take necessary precautions, and stay home to stay safe. Your safety is our top priority."

What to Expect

Expect heavy snow mixed with sleet and freezing rain. There is a high chance of at least 5 inches of snow, with some areas receiving over 10 inches. Ice accumulation is possible, particularly south of Interstate 70. Dangerously cold weather is expected to begin Friday evening through Saturday morning and could continue into early next week.

Prepare Now

  • Monitor the latest weather forecasts for updates.
  • Stock up on necessary groceries, medication, and supplies.
  • Check on elderly friends, family, and neighbors.
  • Ensure pets and livestock are protected.
  • Use caution if you must be outside. Wear appropriate clothing, gloves, and a hat.
  • If you absolutely must drive, ensure your gas tank is full and have emergency supplies in your car, including extra batteries, a flashlight, and a blanket.
