[ARCHIVED] County Executive Gardner Addresses Growing Demand for Generation of Solar Power in Frederick County

During her public information briefing today, Executive Jan Gardner discussed the growing demand for the generation of solar power in Frederick County and how to best harness this new technology.

She signed an executive order to place a temporary, six-month hold on any new applications for large solar projects that are seeking a special exception or site plan approval so that county staff may conduct a comprehensive review of questions that have been raised. Organizations such as the Farm Bureau, Agricultural Preservation Advisory Board and other interested parties will be asked for input before these projects can proceed.

The order excludes single family homes, businesses, farms, residents and community solar projects up to 10 acres from putting solar panels on their own buildings or generating their own power.
