Local officials joined together with the community and their honored guests to officially break ground on the Point of Rocks Community Commons Park.
“This new park is going to be a treasure for this community and all of our citizens,” commented Frederick County Executive Jan Gardner. “Community Commons Park will be a place to celebrate Point of Rocks’ resilience and its strong sense of community.”
The community of Point of Rocks is the southern gateway to Frederick County and the State of Maryland along US Route 15, a designated scenic byway. Point of Rocks has played a role in history as a transportation hub with the Potomac River, canal, railroad, trails and highways intersecting, especially during the early 19th century and the Civil War. Point of Rocks continues to be a stop for tourists, as well as locals, because of the access to the C&O Canal and railroad buffs visiting the historic train station.
