FREDERICK, MD – Frederick County Executive Jan Gardner today announced that the county is installing additional safety measures to protect children walking to the new Sugarloaf Elementary School in Urbana. Raised crosswalks and a speed hump are being constructed this week to slow traffic along Lew Wallace Street, Stone Barn Drive, and Urbana Pike.
“We want to slow down traffic because we want kids to be safe,” Executive Gardner said. “Parents brought their concerns to staff, who immediately evaluated the situation to determine what the County could do to help children safely navigate their way to school.”
