County to hold Public Meeting on Hazard Mitigation Plan Update
Public Input Sought
FREDERICK, Md. – The Frederick County Division of Emergency Management will hold a virtual public meeting on Thursday, October 28, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m to gather input on Frederick County’s Hazard Mitigation Plan update. The meeting will take place via Microsoft Teams Videoconference at www.bit.ly/FCGHMP. The meeting link and details are also accessible through the County’s Hazard Mitigation Plan website www.FrederickCountyMD.gov/HMP.
The purpose of the public meeting is to provide a project overview from Dewberry, consultant to the project, and solicit information from the public. Public input will help the project team analyze potential hazards affecting residents and recommend possible actions to reduce their impact. Hazards include flood, dam failure, tornado, high wind, drought, hail, wildfire, winter storm, lightning, extreme heat, and hurricane. The Plan will also analyze climate change and social vulnerability as it relates to hazard impacts.
The goal of the Hazard Mitigation Plan is to minimize or eliminate the long-term risk to human life and property from known hazards by identifying and implementing cost-effective mitigation actions.
Public input is critical to determine project needs and priorities for the Plan. A survey is available at www.FrederickCountyMD.gov/HMPSurvey through October 22, 2021. Completing the survey should take no more than 10 minutes.
