[ARCHIVED] New Traffic Control at Intersection of Christophers Crossing, Walter Martz Road, and Jordan Valley

stop sign

FREDERICK, MD – The Division of Public Works, Traffic and Permit Section, announced today that changes to traffic control at the intersection of Christophers Crossing, Walter Martz Road, and Jordan Valley Way are planned for February 15, 2023.  Currently, Walter Martz Road and Jordan Valley Way are required to stop and Christophers Crossing is not.  As of February 15, 2023, all four legs of the intersection will be required to stop when new stop signs go into effect on that date.

The additional stop signs on Christophers Crossing are considered necessary to address limited sight distance, which is not sufficient for observed vehicle speeds.  Improving sight distance is not possible due to visual obstructions located outside of the road right-of-way area.

In accordance with Maryland driving law, at all intersections controlled with 4-way stop signs in Maryland, the vehicle that arrives first may proceed through the intersection after coming to a stop at the stop sign.

If more than one vehicle arrives at the stop signs at approximately the same time, the motorist must yield to the vehicle to the right.

For additional information, contact David Olney, Engineering Supervisor, Traffic & Permit Section, at 301-600-2930 or via e-mail at dolney@FrederickCountyMD.gov.
