Frederick, Md. – The Frederick County Office for Children and Families invites child care providers, licensed and unlicensed, caring for children who are too young for kindergarten (ages 0-5) to take a brief survey on their work. The survey is open May 23rd through June 9th, 2023.

“This survey is part of an ongoing Child Care Market Study that aims to understand child care supply and demand in the context of community members values and experiences” said Shelly Toms, Director of the Office for Children and Families. The survey of child care providers follows a recently completed survey from Frederick County families with young children, regarding their child care needs.

“Child care providers are essential to our County’s economic success now and in the future.  High quality child care makes it possible for parents to work and be confident that their children are cared for,” said County Executive Jessica Fitzwater. “When child care providers join with families to help children build strong brain architecture right from the start, children are more likely to have lifelong health and wellbeing – which contributes to future economic prosperity.”

The provider survey is available online in English and Spanish. The links to the survey are:  (English) (Spanish)

The results of the survey will help the Office for Children and Families identify child care provider needs and inform the County on ways to invest in innovative strategies to sustain a strong child care system and improve child care access.

The Child Care Market Study is being conducted by Public Policy Associates, in partnership with Solomon Evaluation.  The study is funded by an American Rescue Plan Act grant from the County and the project is led by the Office for Children and Families.   For more information about the project and updates on community engagement opportunities, see
