[ARCHIVED] Annual Water Quality Reports Available Online

All County-Operated Systems Meet Standards

FREDERICK, MD – All 13 drinking water systems operated by the Frederick County Division of Water and Sewer Utilities meet or exceed all State and Federal drinking water standards. These results are reported in the 2023 Consumer Confidence Reports, which are now available on the Frederick County Government website: FrederickCountyMD.gov/WaterQualityReports.

The Safe Drinking Water Act requires community water systems to provide an annual Consumer Confidence Report to customers. The report must list the levels of regulated contaminants found in water. It also must provide information about health effects related to any violations of drinking water standards.

This year’s report includes information on PFAS, also known as “Forever Chemicals,” which can come from food packaging, non-stick pans, and more. In April 2024, the Environmental Protection Agency established maximum levels for six of these chemicals. Information on the new regulations can be found on the Division of Water and Sewer Utilities web page. Since 2020, Frederick County and the Maryland Department of the Environment have tested Frederick County water systems for PFAS. Results of those tests can be found in each Consumer Confidence Report.

“Through the CCR, our residents can stay well informed about the regulations that must be met in order to ensure our customer’s water is safe to drink” said DWSU Director Mark Schweitzer. “Our staff take great pride in providing our customers with reliable service and high-quality drinking water. I hope this report will help customers better understand what is in the water they rely upon each day.”

Through the end of June, water customers will see a notice printed in their quarterly bills that includes a link to their system’s online report. Customers who cannot view the report online can request a paper copy from the division by calling 301-600-1825.
