[ARCHIVED] Flood Watch in Effect – Stay Alert, Stay Safe

FREDERICK, Md. – The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for Friday afternoon into early Saturday morning. Heavy rain on top of already saturated ground can cause sudden flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying or flood-prone places.

Flooding may also happen in areas with poor drainage or lots of pavement, like parking lots, roads, and sidewalks.

Floodwater can be dangerous and unpredictable. It takes only a few inches of fast-moving water to knock a person off their feet. A foot of water can sweep away a car. It can also hide dangers like missing sections of road, downed branches and sharp objects. What you can’t see can hurt you.

Never walk or drive through floodwater. If you see water over the road, Turn Around, Don’t Drown.
