FREDERICK, Md – Frederick County officials and community partners gathered today at Rose Hill Manor Park and Museums to break ground on the new Robert H. Renneberger Carriage Museum Facility. The 6,000-square-foot, climate-controlled building will house the site’s collection of more than 26 historic carriages, sleighs, and wagons.

The new facility will replace the original carriage museum, which opened in 1976. Expanded space and modern climate controls will allow Frederick County Parks and Recreation to better preserve the collection and share it with the public.

“This project is about preserving Frederick County’s history and making it accessible for generations to come,” said County Executive Jessica Fitzwater. “The new Carriage Museum will strengthen opportunities for education and community engagement while honoring the stories that shaped our county.”

“Frederick County Parks and Recreation is proud to maintain and provide public access to this collection of artifacts that allow us to interpret the transportation history of Frederick County, as well as the larger history of travel throughout time,” said Kari Saavedra, Recreation Manager for Frederick County Parks and Recreation. “This new space will allow us to highlight the variety of ways transportation shaped the lives of Rose Hill residents and demonstrate the evolution of travel, while supporting our mission of preserving and presenting the living heritage of the property in a child-friendly, hands-on environment.”

The project is funded through the State Capital Budget and the Frederick County Capital Budget. Construction is scheduled to finish in August 2026, aligning with the 50th anniversary of the carriage collection and the nationwide commemoration of the United States’ 250th anniversary.
