Historic Preservation Plan

The Historic Preservation Plan is a planning document designed to help the County address issues related to cultural and historic resources. Historic Preservation staff are leading the effort to update the County’s 2007 Historic Preservation Plan. The updated plan will take into account factors that impact historic and cultural resources within the County. It may suggest changes to land use and zoning, as well as the introduction of new regulatory tools or incentives.

Help Shape the Plan!

We want to know what you value as historic and where you think historic preservation should focus. Our community enagement survey is now closed. Based on that feedback and comments received over the spring and summer, the Advisory Group has drafted a Vision Statement, Goals and Initiatives for the plan. Staff is meeting with focus groups and collecting feedback on the drafted goals and initiatives to be incorporated in the draft planning document.

Meetings

Historic Preservation staff are leading the effort to update the Historic Preservation Plan. A Historic Preservation Plan Advisory Group is meeting to review the existing historic preservation plan and community feedback to help guide the update. Frederick Futures Open House: Shelter, Culture, and Nature

The Livable Frederick Planning and Design Office held three open houses for the Frederick County Historic Preservation Plan in March and April 2025. These open houses (Frederick Futures Open House: Shelter, Culture, and Nature) were intended to provide members of the public with information about the purpose of the plans and an opportunity to share comments with planning staff. These meetings also included opportunities to learn about the Housing Element and the Green Infrastructure Plan.

Workshops and Public Hearings

As with previous Livable Frederick plans, members of the public will be able to participate as the plan is developed during Historic Preservation Commission workshops, during the Historic Preservation Commission’s public hearing process for their draft document, and again as the Recommended Plan moves forward through the legislative process with the County Council. Please check this website for announcements for upcoming meetings.
