This Capital Improvement Program project is to rehabilitate the 500-foot Biggs Ford Road Bridge over the Monocacy River near US Route 15. The project will repair damaged abutments, upgrade parapet safety standards, repaint steel beams, and provide other maintenance repairs as needed to extend the life span of the bridge. The updated bridge is intended to meet current design standards and provide necessary access requirements for future maintenance.
In September of 2023, 75% design completed and is submitted to the Maryland State Highway Administration for review. The design includes bearing pad repairs, abutment repairs, beam painting, pier protection, parapet upgrades, surface repaving, and other adjustments necessary to improve the quality of the bridge. After the State Highway Administration review is completed, the engineering consultant is anticipated to submit for a Final Design submission in the Summer of 2024. The proposed Detour route is shown to leave at least two lanes open at all time during construction but will be directed with traffic barriers as select portions of the bridge are repaired.
