Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Commission

Board's Purpose

The Commission shall act as an advisory body that advises County officials and staff on the sound development, management, and safe use of the County's pedestrian and bicycle systems as they relate to infrastructure, accessibility, and promoting the benefits of these systems.

Among its responsibilities and duties, the Commission shall:

  • Review the annual Capital Improvement Program and provide to the County Executive and County Council recommendations regarding funding for projects relating to bicycling and pedestrian transportation.
  • Assist the County with the implementation of the Bikeways and Trails Plan.
  • Periodically, or at the request of the County Executive or County Council, provide advice on the development of regulations or policies that benefit cyclists and pedestrians.
  • Engage in community outreach and education on cycling and pedestrian initiatives and events.
  • On or before July 1 of each year, the Commission shall submit an annual report to the County Executive and County Council. The report shall include recommendations on the above.

Meeting Times

How to Get Involved

The Commission consists of nine (9) members. Appointments occur on a rolling basis and as positions open. Non-members are encouraged to attend meetings and participate in activities including serving on special committees appointed by the Chair.

Procedure for Appointment

Subject to confirmation by the County Council, the County Executive shall appoint individuals to serve on the Commission for a three-year term. If you are interested in an existing opening, please submit an application to the Office of the County Executive by completing the requisite form:
