Commission's Purpose

The Rustic Roads Commission was established in November 2023 by the County Council to administer the Rustic Roads Program, previously known as the Rural Roads Program. The Commission oversees the designation and protection of the County's most historic, scenic, and unaltered rural roads. The rustic quality of these roads reinforce and contribute to the rural character of the landscape. When properly maintained, a rural road offers users a more intimate and natural experience.

Meeting Times

Meetings are held the second Wednesday of every month at 6:00 p.m.

How to Get Involved

The Commission has 7 seats. Appointments occur on a rolling basis and as positions open. Non-members are encouraged to attend and participate in activities.

Procedure for Appointment

The County Council appoints the Board members. Members serve three-year terms. If your qualifications match current openings, please apply by sending your letter of interest along with a current resume to FCGBoards@FrederickCountyMD.gov.
